Verstappen takes third win of season in Baku as Leclerc retires with engine failure

– Max Verstappen secured his third victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, leading from pole to flag on the Baku City Circuit. The Red Bull driver crossed the line with a time of 1 hour, 32 minutes and 14.632 seconds.
Verstappen was briefly challenged during a safety car period, but after the restart he quickly pulled away, finishing 8.3 seconds ahead of his teammate Sergio Pérez, who took second place. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, running in third, was forced to retire on lap 34 due to a power unit failure, denying him a podium finish.
George Russell of Mercedes claimed third place with a solid strategy. After the race, Verstappen extends his lead in the drivers' standings with 89 points, while Pérez sits second with 72. The championship now heads to Miami, USA, for the next round.
