Lyles clocks 9.83 for world lead, Richardson wins women's 100m in 10.05
LONDON, April 18
– The men's and women's 100m sprints at the Diamond League London meeting delivered electric performances. American sprint star Noah Lyles stormed to victory in the men's 100m with a time of 9.83 seconds (+0.8 m/s wind), setting a new world lead for the 2026 season at London Olympic Stadium.
Lyles registered a reaction time of 0.128 seconds and built a clear advantage during the middle phase of the race, finishing 0.09 seconds ahead of Jamaican runner-up Oblique Seville. "My target is 9.75. Today's execution was close to perfect, and it builds great confidence for the Tokyo World Championships in August," Lyles said afterwards.
The women's 100m final was equally thrilling. Tokyo Olympic champion Sha'Carri Richardson claimed victory in 10.05 seconds, while her compatriot Brittany Brown took second in 10.11. Richardson revealed after the race that she would attempt to break the 10-second barrier at next week's Shanghai meeting.
