Sinner fights back to beat Alcaraz in three sets, wins first Madrid Masters title

MADRID, April 26

– Jannik Sinner of Italy claimed his first ATP Madrid Masters title by coming from behind to defeat home favorite Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

Alcaraz, energized by the home crowd, took the first set 6-4 with a single break of serve. Sinner then raised his level, improving his serve and baseline consistency. He broke twice in the second set to win 6-3. In the decider, Alcaraz showed signs of fatigue, and Sinner seized the moment, winning four consecutive games to close out the match 6-2. The contest lasted 2 hours and 17 minutes.

This marks Sinner's third Masters 1000 title of the season and the sixth of his career. "Carlos is always tough to play in his home country, and I learned to stay patient. This trophy means a lot to me," Sinner said in his on-court interview. Alcaraz said he would regroup and focus on the upcoming French Open.
