Kane scores and assists as Bayern beat Real Madrid 2-1 away, ending decade-long winless streak
MADRID, April 7
– Bayern Munich claimed a 2-1 away victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in the first leg of the 2025-2026 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, ending a run of ten matches without a win against the Spanish giants.
Bayern broke the deadlock just before halftime. Serge Gnabry threaded a perfect through ball to Luis Díaz, who calmly slotted into the far corner to make it 1-0. Just 30 seconds after the restart, Harry Kane doubled the lead, curling a superb shot from outside the box after a cutback from Michael Olise. Real Madrid pulled one back in the 74th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a low cross and Kylian Mbappé tapped in from close range. Both sides had further chances, with Jamal Musiala and Mbappé missing golden opportunities, but the score remained 2-1.
Kane delivered a goal and an assist, showcasing his all-around ability as one of Europe's elite strikers. Real's defense, marshaled by Antonio Rüdiger, struggled to contain Bayern's attacking waves. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was solid, making several key saves.
The second leg will be played at Bayern's Allianz Arena, where Real Madrid will look to produce another famous comeback.
