Zenless Zone Zero: The Ultimate Evelyn Team Composition Guide

Evelyn, a Fire Attack character serving as the main damage-per-second (DPS) in Zenless Zone Zero, is a key member of the Stars of Lyra faction. Alongside Astra Yao, she is one of the only playable members of this faction, yet this doesn't diminish her utility or her ability to synergize effectively with a wide range of characters. Her skill set centers around the Binding Seal state she can impose on enemies. Entering this state allows her to deal increased damage and gain valuable buffs through her core skill.

In general, Evelyn's skill kit isn't overly complex, and she doesn't rely on highly specialized synergies to perform well. This means that in most common scenarios, players can opt for a standard setup consisting of an Attack character, a Stun character, and a Support character. This is especially true because her additional ability boosts her damage when a Stun or Support character is part of the team.

Here are some of the best team compositions for Evelyn in Zenless Zone Zero, each carefully crafted to utilize different characters while maximizing synergy and support for her.

Evelyn + Lighter + Astra Yao

Best Generalist Team Comp for Evelyn

Astra Yao is currently among the most powerful support units in the game. She offers universal buffs such as increased ATK and damage, and her Ultimate ability provides the unique function of healing the entire team, a feature that was previously only available through certain Bangboo units. Given these significant advantages, Evelyn will clearly benefit from having Astra on the team. Moreover, Astra's Quick Assist feature enables Evelyn to trigger her Chain Attacks more often.

For the other slot, Lighter is the optimal Stun unit for Evelyn. He requires minimal time on the field, which allows for a seamless synergy with Astra Yao’s Quick Assist capabilities. Although Lighter’s buffs are mainly tailored for Fire and Ice units, Evelyn, as a Fire DPS, can fully make use of them. She will greatly profit from the Fire damage buff and the Fire resistance shred that Lighter provides, while also being able to stay on the field for extended periods. The only times she'll need to switch out are to replenish Morale and to trigger Lighter’s powerful front-loaded Daze effect at crucial moments.

Overall, this team composition is relatively easy to play, with few strict timing requirements. For players who prefer a playstyle with fewer character swaps, this setup is an excellent choice, provided they have access to all these characters, as they are limited units.

If Lighter is not available, Koleda can be a suitable non-limited Fire Stun alternative. Additionally, if the team already has a Stun character to activate Evelyn's additional ability, using Caesar instead of Astra can work quite well, especially in tough battles where more defensive utility is needed.

Evelyn + Burnice + Lucy

Mono-Fire Team Comp for Evelyn

Players aiming to make the most of a 4-piece Inferno Metal set combined with a 2-piece Woodpecker Electro set to maintain a Crit Rate of over 80%—thereby consistently maximizing Evelyn's damage output—will find great value in a team composition that ensures a continuous build-up of the Fire Anomaly. This is because when the Inferno Metal 4-piece set is equipped, Evelyn deals significantly more damage when enemies are burned, and she can also reach the 80% Crit Rate through her Core Ability.

This team composition is quite similar to Soldier 11’s Mono-Fire Team, as both sets of characters function in a comparable manner. The Burn effect lasts for a relatively long time, allowing players to maintain near-permanent uptime, thanks to Burnice’s ability to apply the Fire Anomaly off the field. Since Burnice’s Heat bar can be refilled to sustain her off-field abilities, Evelyn can remain on the field for extended periods without disruptions. Overall, for players who already have Burnice and want to use Evelyn in more specific scenarios, this team composition offers an effective setup with non-limited characters that remains highly competitive.

Since Burnice is an Anomaly character, the team needs either a Stun or Support unit to fill the final slot, and Lucy fits this role perfectly. Similar to Astra Yao, Lucy provides a universal ATK buff for the team, although her buff is of a smaller magnitude. Despite needing to be swapped in more frequently, she remains a flexible option. Additionally, Lucy’s pets contribute to the build-up of the Fire Anomaly and also deal a small amount of damage and Daze.

Unlike the other two team compositions, this setup lacks strong alternative characters that can replace its core members. In particular, Burnice is essential for this mono-fire team to function effectively as a generalist team composition.

Evelyn + Anby + Nicole

Best F2P Team Comp for Evelyn

Players who wish to use Evelyn with only free-to-play (F2P) characters (excluding Evelyn herself) will find that teaming her up with Anby and Nicole is the best option. While Anby doesn't offer as much Stun or team-wide utility as units like Lighter or Qingyi, and has a rotation that requires more precise timing, which might be challenging for beginners, she is currently the only 4-star and freely obtainable Stun character. However, when built and played correctly, she can still provide powerful Daze capabilities for Evelyn.

For the final slot, Nicole is the ideal Support character, thanks to her DEF Shred debuff, which helps to boost Evelyn’s damage output. Similar to Anby, Nicole also requires more frequent swaps and has stricter timing requirements compared to other Support options. Nevertheless, for players who enjoy a fast-paced, timing-oriented team composition or want to challenge themselves while mainly using F2P characters, this setup offers excellent synergy. Additionally, Anby and Nicole can trigger each other’s additional abilities, further optimizing the team, even though Evelyn herself won't directly benefit from Nicole’s Ether buff.

If players have access to Soukaku, she can effectively replace Nicole in this team composition, even though both Soukaku and Anby will lose their Additional Ability. While Soukaku doesn't provide DEF Shred like Nicole, she makes up for it by offering a strong ATK buff with a longer duration, making her a solid choice for general team setups. Although her buffs are most effective for Ice characters, Evelyn can still take advantage of the increased ATK, making Soukaku a viable alternative for those who prefer a more straightforward support option.
