The Qinghe Storyline: A Story of Lost Legacy
So our tale begins with our hero heading toward
Jiang Yan's old home
. Out of nowhere, a
mysterious figure in black
ambushes them, knocking them out cold and stealing a very important
engraved jade pendant
—an heirloom that's deeply tied to their past.
When they come to, the protagonist decides to head back to the
"Unenvious Immortal" Inn
. On the way, they run into
Hongxian (Crimson Thread)
, and the two end up paying a visit to the
General's Shrine
. What our hero doesn't realize is that this shrine honors their own late father,
Wang Qing
.
.

The Unenvious Immortal Inn and Auntie Han
Now,
Auntie Han
seems like your typical innkeeper, but she's much more than that. She's known in certain circles as the
"Goddess of the Luo River,"
a true master of the forbidden art of
face-changing
.
She works with her partner,
Tian Buzhou
, from the strangely named
"Clinic for the Living."
Deep beneath his clinic, she runs a hidden operating room where she performs radical facial reconstruction.
A Tragic Pact
: A group of patriots, determined to take back the lost northern lands, voluntarily went under her knife to become spies within the Khitan ranks. Those who made it through the surgery started new lives undercover. The ones left disfigured by failed operations had no choice but to remain hidden underground, waiting for a victory that might never come. Those
bandaged figures
you meet down there aren't monsters—they're the forgotten heroes who gave everything.
The List
: As the one in charge of the whole operation, Auntie Han holds the
master list of every undercover agent
. And that list is exactly why the powerful and ruthless
Embroidered Gold Pavilion
is after her.
.

Yi Dao and the Tragedy of Blackwater City
While poking around the clinic, our hero has a run-in with
Yi Dao, the "Death's Blade."
They start off on the wrong foot, but eventually form an unlikely bond. Yi Dao ends up sharing the sad story of
Chu Qingquan
—Auntie Han's former lover.
Chu Qingquan had wanted to join the face-changing program, but Han refused. He went off to investigate the
Blackwater City Incident
instead—a catastrophe that wiped out the entire city, rumored to be caused by a Southern Tang weapon called the
"Dream Marionette" plague.
When Yi Dao finally made it to Blackwater City, he found Chu Qingquan dying. His last words were:
"Find Sanniang [Auntie Han] at Shenxiandu. Take Jiang Wolong's [Jiang Yan's] secret away from her."
As Yi Dao tried to carry him to safety, Chu Qingquan fell into the raging Yellow River and was lost, his body never found.
Here's the important connection: Chu Qingquan, Jiang Yan, and Wang Qing were all brothers of the
Tianquan Sect
, bound together by the secret of the
Zhongdu Bridge battle
. And the "secret" they all died to protect? It's almost certainly our
protagonist
.

The Night the Inn Burned
The very night after Yi Dao tells this story, the
Embroidered Gold Pavilion
attacks the Unenvious Immortal Inn. They want the list, and they're not leaving any witnesses.
A Clever Trick
: They set a perfect trap to
lure Auntie Han away
, making sure she couldn't help when the fighting started.
No Way Out
: The Pavilion's operative, the deadly
Qianye
, trapped the inn using a mystical formation—a "ghost fence" that made it impossible to escape. To save everyone,
Hongxian
slipped out through a hidden tunnel and made her way to a hilltop, where she used a
red banner
as a signal to guide them out. It worked, but Qianye shot her down with an arrow, and
she was never seen again
.
The Last Fight
: The protagonist and Yi Dao fought Qianye together, but she was a nightmare—able to
shape-shift into the image of someone from their deepest memories
. Overpowered and out of options, Yi Dao made his final stand. He triggered a massive
explosion
to cover our hero's escape, giving his life to end the fight. The protagonist was knocked out by the blast and was probably saved by a returning—but quickly vanishing—Auntie Han.

A New Name, A New Face
After the fire, everyone believes the young master of the Unenvious Immortal Inn died that night. Storytellers have already started turning the event into legend. That old identity is gone for good.
And so, our hero
puts on a mask
, leaving their old life behind. Their next journey is to
Bianliang (Kaifeng)
, to find the missing Auntie Han and uncover the truth that tore their world apart.

What It's All About
When you get down to it, the Qinghe story is a
personal tragedy of loss and rebirth
. It walks us through
losing your heritage, uncovering painful secrets, witnessing sacrifice, and finally being reborn under a new identity
. It's a powerful start that forges our hero in fire and sets the stage for an even greater adventure ahead.
