š± World Snooker Championship semiāfinal: Wu Yize storms to 6-2 lead over Allen, closing in on historic final
SHEFFIELD ā In the early hours of May 1 (Beijing time), the semiāfinals of the 2026 World Snooker Championship got underway at the Crucible Theatre. Chinaās 22āyearāold Wu Yize continued his sensational form, taking a commanding 6-2 lead over Mark Allen after the first session, moving within touching distance of snookerās ultimate stage.
After the first four frames were shared 2-2, Wu caught fire, firing in breaks of 57, 78 and 64 to reel off four consecutive frames and extend his lead to 6-2. Allen spent most of that stretch watching from his chair as his young opponent produced a masterclass.
Wu had earlier defeated Iranās Hossein Vafaei 13-8 in the quarterāfinals. His run stands in stark contrast to that of fellow Chinese player Zhao Xintong ā the defending champion fell to 2005 champion Shaun Murphy 13-10 in the quarterāfinals, ending his title defense. Wu is now the only Chinese player remaining in the final four.
Even in the early stages of this longāformat match, Wuās superb play drew praise from 1991 champion John Parrott: āAgainst Wu Yize, no ball is truly safe⦠As soon as he gets to the table, he believes he can pot anything. Youāre sitting in your chair thinking you might get another chance, and then ā bang ā he clears up.ā
