Nissan continues to redefine its Nismo lineup, confirming that the next-generation Nissan Patrol will receive the high-performance Nismo treatment. This move follows the brand’s bold venture into performance SUVs, a segment that Nissan has progressively cultivated since the introduction of the Nismo-badged Patrol back in 2015.
A New Era of Power: The V-6 Takes Center Stage
Shifting gears in engine strategy, the upcoming Patrol Nismo will transition from the robust V-8 to a more efficient twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6. This change aligns with contemporary automotive trends prioritizing balance between power and efficiency. The previous Patrol Nismo model was renowned for its 428 horsepower V-8 engine, which delivered exceptional performance and a memorable roar that captivated enthusiasts in the Middle East and beyond.
Performance and Design: A Beast in the Making
Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s Senior Vice President for Global Design, shared his excitement about the new Patrol Nismo's formidable presence: “When I first saw it, I didn’t sleep for four days... it’s a beast.” This next iteration of the Patrol Nismo promises not only advanced power but also aggressive styling updates that emphasize its performance capabilities.
From Sketch to Reality: The Evolution of Patrol Nismo
While details on the exact specifications are still under wraps, Nissan hints at significant enhancements in power and torque, surpassing the already impressive figures of its predecessors. The non-Nismo version of the new Armada, which shares its platform with the Patrol, boasts 425 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from a similar six-cylinder engine derived from the Infiniti QX80.
Balancing Tradition and Technology
Despite moving away from the V-8, Nissan is conscious of consumer nostalgia for the traditional engine sound. Albaisa commented on the potential use of synthetic sound enhancements to replicate the iconic V-8 roar, noting that such features might be optional for purists preferring an authentic experience.
A Diverse and Dynamic Nismo Family
The Patrol Nismo's arrival will bolster Nissan's Nismo lineup, joining the likes of the fully electric Ariya Nismo and the legendary, albeit rare, Juke-R. This expansion signifies Nissan's commitment to blending performance with innovation across various vehicle segments.
