In Genshin Impact, you can build a decent roster of characters for free if you invest time. You start with the Traveler, but there are other free characters to unlock.
**The Traveler**
- You can choose between Aether (male) and Lumine (female). This character is the protagonist and starts as an Anemo character. As you progress through different regions like Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine, you can unlock Geo, Electro, Dendro, and Hydro abilities respectively by visiting the Statue of the Seven in those regions.
**Amber**
- The second character you'll encounter. After meeting Paimon and following the opening quest, you'll quickly get Amber. She's known for her Pyro-infused arrows and is useful for solving puzzles, though considered one of the weaker characters.
**Kaeya**
- The third character. After meeting Amber and entering Mondstadt, follow quests to find Kaeya at a temple. His Cryo abilities help with early puzzles and he has some uses in certain team compositions.
**Lisa**
- You'll get Lisa after Kaeya. Similar to Kaeya's acquisition, follow a quest in Mondstadt to a temple, get a tutorial, and add her to your party. She helps with Electro puzzles in the early game.
**Xiangling**
- Unlock her by clearing Floor 3, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss after reaching Adventure Rank 20. She's one of the best free characters, with her Pyronado ability keeping up damage even off the field.
**Collei**
- Unlock her by clearing Floor 4, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss. She's a good Dendro support for applying Dendro and solving puzzles.
**Lynette**
- Unlock for free once you reach Adventure Rank 25 or higher. She's a great Anemo support, similar to Kazuha or Sucrose, adding area-of-effect swirl damage.
**Event Free Characters**
- Limited-time events sometimes reward free characters or constellations. The characters usually relate to the event's region. Pay attention to events to get freebies.
