MIAMI – Sprint qualifying for the 2026 Miami Grand Prix is complete. McLaren’s Lando Norris delivered a perfect lap to take pole position with a time of 1:27.869, securing McLaren’s first qualifying top spot of the season and ending Mercedes’ monopoly on all qualifying sessions this year. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) was just 0.222 seconds behind in second, with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri third.
McLaren’s upgrades for this weekend have shown clear effectiveness, especially in high‑temperature conditions. Norris said afterward: “It’s a perfect result and the best reward for the entire team’s hard work. We finally feel the grip again.” However, he remained cautious: “The race is just getting started.” For Ferrari, Charles Leclerc qualified fourth, while Lewis Hamilton could only manage seventh, saying his performance “did not meet expectations.” Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished fifth, feeling the car was “still not at the ideal level.”
