How Many Trainers and the Best Counters You Need!

Get ready to battle Gigantamax Blastoise in Pokémon GO this weekend! Gigantamax Raids are hitting the game with a bang, and all three original starters in their Gigantamax forms - Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur - will be making their debuts. But these battles won't be easy!

How Many Trainers Do You Need?

Sadly, you'll need 20 - 25 Trainers with good counters to take down Gigantamax Blastoise in Pokémon GO. This makes it tough for rural Trainers and those without a community to play with. The maximum number of Trainers is 40, and early reports suggest it takes at least 35 for a "comfortable" Max Battle. As time passes, these battles should get easier. Some strong groups with a clear strategy, upgraded Max Moves, and high-level Dynamax Pokémon might be able to take on Blastoise with around 15 Trainers. Stay tuned for updates!

Best Gigantamax Blastoise Counters

Options are limited as there aren't many Dynamax Pokémon in the game yet. Gigantamax Blastoise has weaknesses to Grass and Electric-type attacks (Electric-type Dynamax Pokémon will debut in November with Toxtricity). The best counters are:

  • Dynamax Venusaur
  • Dynamax Rillaboom
  • Dynamax Gengar
These are the top choices for now. You could also use Gigantamax Venusaur if you have it from a previous battle.

Pokémon GO Gigantamax Max Battle Tips

Coordination is key! Use Campfire to connect with other Trainers. In battle, have some use shields and healing while others attack. Also, reserve your best Pokémon for the end as the Max Meter charges faster then. If you have good Dynamax Pokémon in Power Spots, consider recalling them. Good luck, Trainers!
