McCollum hits go-ahead jumper with 12.5 seconds left as Hawks edge Knicks by 1 to take series lead
ATLANTA, April 23
– The Atlanta Hawks took a 2-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference first round of the 2025-2026 NBA playoffs, edging the New York Knicks 109-108 at State Farm Arena.
The Hawks led by as many as 18 points during the game, but the Knicks stormed back in the fourth quarter. Jalen Brunson converted an and-one layup with 1:03 remaining to give New York a 108-105 lead. Jalen Johnson responded with a putback to cut the deficit to one. After several empty possessions, C.J. McCollum calmly sank a mid-range jumper with 12.5 seconds left to put Atlanta back in front. On New York's final possession, Brunson's pass was intercepted by Jonathan Kuminga, sealing the win for the Hawks.
Jalen Johnson finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists, just shy of a triple-double. McCollum added 23 points and 5 rebounds, while Kuminga came off the bench to score 21. For the Knicks, OG Anunoby poured in 29 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, Brunson had 26 points and 4 assists, and Karl-Anthony Towns recorded a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds.
"When someone needed to step up, everyone gave everything they had," McCollum said after the game. "Winning in that kind of atmosphere – that's what playoff basketball is all about." Game 4 will remain in Atlanta.
