- Goliath was born between 1885–1890 on Santa Cruz Island before arriving at the Bronx Zoo in 1929 and later moving to Zoo Miami in 1981.
- Despite breeding with multiple females over the decades, he had never successfully fathered offspring until now.

- Zoo Miami has submitted Goliath's case to the Guinness Book of World Records, possibly naming him the oldest first-time father in history—and potentially the "oldest first-time parents" alongside Sweet Pea.
